Blogging for Thinkfinity
Thinkfinity is a web portal with over 55,000 web resources. There are resources for parents and educators. There is professional development for educators and parents. Within Thinkfinity there are consortium Partners: Artsedge, EconEdLink,EdSitement, Illuminations, Literacy Network, Verizon Foundation, ReadWriteThink, Science NetLinks, Smithsonian's History Explorer, Xpeditions. Illuminations is the main math provider. These content providers are at the national level so all are aligned with the national standards. Within the individual providers you can see some of the PA standards beginning to be aligned. Parent, students, teachers and afterschool tabs are available for the various types of users that are categorized in Thinkfinity. The search engine is found on the right of the main page. The same search rules apply for Thinkfinity that would also apply to most other search engines. A search can be done across content providers or within a specific content provider.
Usually, no matter which tab (parent, student, educator) you click on to enter Thinkfinity, you have a resource area on the page. There are menu tabs at the top of the page. There is a calendar available that identifies specific events for each day. The new resource area is Thinkfinity's way of keeping track of the content providers updates.
There is a 21st century skills tab under educator. This page reviews 21st Century learning and 21st Century skills and the skills framework. This site shows that 21st century skills is more then just technology and this page provides links from each of the content providers to lessons or units that relate to the 21st century skills for the various content areas.
There is a standard's alignment tab but as of this presentation Pennsylvania is not showing yet on this tab. However, when you do a search you will look for a yellow star icon with an S in the middle for standards and this will show the Pennsylvania standards connections. When a user clicks on the star it will take the user to a standards page and Pennsylvania can be selected.
